Union Minister Piyush Goyal said on Monday that the Bharatiya Janata Party will create history by winning the Hyderabad seat by defeating AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi. Notably, the BJP has fielded Madhavi Latha against the four-time MP, Asaduddin Owaisi.
"The people of Telangana are determined to make a strong, decisive and honest government to make 'Viksit Bharat' under the leadership of PM Modi. We want to assure the people of Telangana that if they stay with us, the state and the country will develop together. We will win the Hyderabad seat by defeating Owaisi and will create history," he said. The old city, comprising two Lok Sabha seats--Hyderabad and Secunderabad--will poll for the Lok Sabha on May 13 (Phase 4). The counting of votes is scheduled for June 4.
Further lashing out at Rahul Gandhi, Goyal said that the Congress leader should first handle his INDI lliance. "The Kerala CM is working to defeat Rahul Gandhi and he will have to look towards another safe seat outside Kerala," he added.
Owaisi, who has served four terms in the Lok Sabha as the elected representative from Hyderabad since 2004, was previously elected as an MLA twice in the erstwhile undivided Andhra Pradesh. The Hyderabad Lok Sabha constituency comprises seven assembly segments--Bahadurpura, Chandrayangutta, Charminar, Goshamahal, Karwan, Malakpet and Yakatpura. All assembly seats, except Goshamahal, are presently held by the AIMIM.
However, the battle for the Lok Sabha, this time, is tipped to be a tough one against fiery BJP candidate Madhavi Latha. A cultural activist, Latha holds a Bachelor's degree in Public Administration from Nizam College and a Master's in Political Science from Osmania University. (ANI)
