In a significant development in the Thiruvananthapuram Lok Sabha seat race, BJP candidate Rajeev Chandrasekhar has surged ahead of Congress' Shashi Tharoor by a margin of over 22,000 votes, as per the Election Commission's latest figures.
Early hours of vote counting painted a picture of an intense contest, with both Chandrasekhar and Tharoor exchanging leads of a few thousand votes. However, by noon, the scales tipped in favor of the BJP candidate.
Official data showed Chandrasekhar accumulating 1,77,269 votes, while Tharoor trailed with 1,54,309 votes. Meanwhile, CPI's Pannian Ravindran was positioned third, securing 1,22,258 votes.
