In a significant diplomatic gesture, China on Wednesday congratulated Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the victorious outcome for the BJP-led NDA coalition in the recent general elections. The Election Commission of India confirmed the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) secured 240 out of 543 seats, with Congress capturing 99.
Despite falling short of the majority mark of 272 in the 543-member Lok Sabha, the BJP-led NDA remains in a strong position. Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning remarked, “We noted the results of India’s general election and extend congratulations on the victory of BJP led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and NDA.”
Mao emphasized that a stable and sound relationship between India and China is beneficial for both countries, as well as for regional peace and development. She reiterated China’s readiness to work with India to advance bilateral ties, highlighting the ongoing 21 rounds of talks to resolve the Ladakh border standoff since May 2020.
