Samajwadi Party MLA Irfan Solanki, his brother, and three others were sentenced to seven years of rigorous imprisonment for arson and rioting. In a landmark judgment, Samajwadi Party MLA Irfan Solanki, along with his younger brother and three others, was sentenced to seven years of rigorous imprisonment for setting fire to a woman's house in an attempt to seize her land.
This verdict could lead to Solanki's disqualification from the Uttar Pradesh Assembly under the Representation of the People Act, which mandates disqualification for any public representative sentenced to two or more years of imprisonment. Moreover, the convicted individuals face an additional debarment of six years from House membership post their jail term.
Following a 19-month-long case involving charges of rioting and arson against Solanki and over four dozen others, the session MP-MLA court, under Judge Satyendra Nath Tripathi, pronounced the sentences. Each convict was fined Rs 30,500, failure of which would extend their jail terms by three months.
