Durga Das Uikey: From Educator to Elected Minister

Durga Das Uikey, recently elected from Betul (ST) Lok Sabha seat, was sworn in as a minister in the Narendra Modi government. Uikey, serving his second term, transitioned from a teacher in the state tribal welfare department to a prominent political figure, defeating Congress's Ramu Tekam by a significant margin.

Durga Das Uikey, victor of the recent general elections from Betul (ST) Lok Sabha seat in Madhya Pradesh, took his oath as a minister of state in the Narendra Modi government on Sunday.

Uikey, 58, who is representing Betul (ST) seat for the second consecutive term, previously served as a teacher in the state's tribal welfare department before entering politics with a 2019 Lok Sabha ticket.

In the 2024 polls, Uikey triumphed over his Congress opponent, Ramu Tekam, securing a commanding lead of 3.79 lakh votes.
