TMC MLAs Stage Protest at West Bengal Assembly Over Oath Venue Row

Two newly elected Trinamool Congress MLAs staged a dharna at the West Bengal Assembly compound, demanding to take their oaths within the assembly following a dispute over the ceremony venue. They accused Governor CV Ananda Bose of complicating the issue by insisting on a different location.

In a dramatic turn of events at the West Bengal Assembly, two newly elected Trinamool Congress (TMC) MLAs, Sayantika Bandyopadhyay and Rayat Hossain Sarkar, launched a dharna demanding to take their oaths within the assembly premises.

The protest erupted after Governor CV Ananda Bose refused their request to hold the oath-taking ceremony inside the assembly and invited them to the Governor's House instead. The TMC argued that by-poll winners should be sworn in by the Speaker or Deputy Speaker as per convention.

Speaker Biman Banerjee accused Governor Bose of turning the matter into an ego battle, further complicating the issue. Bose defended his position, stating that a disrespectful letter from the Speaker made the assembly an unfeasible venue.
