Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi took the Lok Sabha by storm on Monday with critical remarks aimed at the ruling BJP. Gandhi accused BJP members of inciting violence and hatred, which sparked furious protests from the treasury benches.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed strong disapproval of Gandhi's statement, stressing that labeling the Hindu society as violent is a grave matter. Countering the uproar, Gandhi clarified that his criticisms were directed solely at the BJP, Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), and Modi, not Hindus as a whole.
Gandhi underscored his point by holding up an image of Lord Shiva, advocating for fearlessness and non-violence, themes common across various religions. Home Minister Amit Shah retorted by invoking the Emergency and 1984 anti-Sikh riots and demanded an apology from Gandhi for offending millions of Hindus. Despite the ordeal, Gandhi remained resolute in his belief that the BJP is undermining India's Constitution.
