President Joe Biden received a crucial boost on Friday from Democratic heavyweights, amid ongoing concerns about his ability to run for reelection. Representative James Clyburn and California Governor Gavin Newsom publicly endorsed Biden, countering claims from other Democrats that the 81-year-old should step aside.

Speaking on NBC's 'Today' program, Clyburn said, 'I'm riding with Biden no matter which direction he goes.' Newsom echoed similar sentiments in a CBS interview, stating, 'I'm all in. No daylight.' Biden's support is, however, showing signs of weakening.

At least 19 lawmakers have urged Biden to drop out following a lackluster debate performance against Donald Trump. Representative Mike Levin emphasized the need for a new leader to boost the party's chances of retaining control of the Senate and reclaiming the House in the upcoming election.

Biden is working to consolidate support, holding calls with Hispanic, Asian, and centrist Democratic lawmakers. Despite some leaders endorsing Biden, other members remain noncommittal. Meanwhile, Democratic strategists are wary of Biden's low approval ratings and advanced age.

Thursday's press conference provided both ammunition and concern. Biden's occasional gaffes, including referring to Vice President Kamala Harris as 'Vice President Trump,' raised eyebrows. However, he also showcased his extensive experience in global issues.

With opinion polls indicating a tight race, Biden will redirect attention to his Republican challenger Trump during a rally in Detroit. Trump, distancing himself from a conservative agenda known as Project 2025, will be in the limelight next week at the Republican Party's convention in Milwaukee.

Despite leading Trump 50% to 48% in an NPR/PBS poll, analysts warn Biden is losing traction in key swing states. Democratic strategist Doug Sosnik highlighted the potential for a significant Trump victory if current trends continue. As Biden fights to retain control, his path ahead remains challenging but not insurmountable.
