Donald Trump selected U.S. Senator J.D. Vance on Monday to be his vice-presidential running mate, as the Republican Party officially nominated Trump as its 2024 presidential candidate during the party's national convention in Milwaukee.

In a statement on his Truth Social platform, Trump praised Vance's commitment to the Constitution and American troops. The convention opened in Milwaukee's Fiserv Forum just days after Trump survived an assassination attempt in Pennsylvania and secured a legal victory with the dismissal of one of his criminal prosecutions.

Trump is set to formally accept the nomination on Thursday, gearing up for a tight race against Democratic President Joe Biden in the November election. Despite the close race, Trump continues to claim without evidence that his 2020 loss was due to widespread fraud and has not committed to accepting the results if he loses again.
