Kapil Sibal Criticizes 'Divisive Agenda' Behind Kanwar Yatra Eateries Directive
Rajya Sabha MP Kapil Sibal has condemned the Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand governments' orders requiring all eateries along the Kanwar Yatra route to display their owners' names as a 'divisive agenda.' He urged that this directive should be retracted, claiming it would only escalate tensions and distract from more pressing issues like unemployment.

Rajya Sabha MP Kapil Sibal on Saturday criticized the Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand governments for their orders requiring all eateries along the Kanwar Yatra route to display their owners' names, labeling it as a 'divisive agenda' that should be withdrawn.
Days after Muzaffarnagar Police instructed eateries along the route to display owners' names, the Uttar Pradesh government extended the order statewide on Friday. Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami noted similar instructions are already in effect in his state.
Sibal questioned the directive's validity, saying, 'Kanwar Yatra Route. UP directs eateries including roadside carts to display names of owners! Is this the route to a 'Viksit Bharat'?' He stressed that such actions will only divide the country and said the politics surrounding the Kanwar Yatra is counterproductive to India's development.
