A local Samajwadi Party leader was killed in Uttar Pradesh's Gonda district, with police booking a BJP councillor and his three sons among five accused, officials said Saturday. Om Prakash Singh was attacked with sharp-edged weapons at his residence Friday night.

After a post-mortem, Singh's body was handed to his family, who protested and refused to perform last rites until the accused were arrested. The family placed his body on the road, demanding immediate action. Senior SP leaders joined the protest, calling for swift justice.

Additional Superintendent of Police Radheshyam Rai and Colonelganj Police Circle Officer Chandrapal Sharma assured the protesters of prompt action. An FIR was registered against the accused based on Singh's wife Neelam's complaint. Police said a team has been formed to arrest the suspects.
