Tamil Nadu Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin has downplayed reports indicating that he may soon be elevated to the position of Deputy Chief Minister. Speaking to reporters on Saturday, Udhayanidhi insisted that Chief Minister M K Stalin would have to make such a call.
Addressing the media during the 45th foundation day of the DMK youth wing, Udhayanidhi emphasized that his priority remains his role as the Youth Welfare and Sports Development Minister, and more importantly, as the secretary of the youth wing, which he holds dear. He responded to the speculation by saying, ''All state ministers and office-bearers function as deputies to the chief minister.''
Udhayanidhi, reflecting on the importance of the youth wing secretary post, reiterated that whatever position he holds, his commitment to the youth wing remains steadfast. He urged the youth wing members to be more active on social media. DMK advocate R S Bharathi opined that Udhayanidhi’s elevation would be beneficial for the party in the 2026 Assembly elections, although he acknowledges that the final decision lies with Chief Minister M K Stalin.
