The Biju Janata Dal (BJD) declared on Sunday that it will serve as a formidable opposition in Parliament, urging the Centre to reconsider its position on special category status for states. This demand aligns with similar requests from BJP's allies.

Sasmit Patra, BJD Rajya Sabha leader, highlighted his party’s increased opposition to the BJP, citing the lack of punitive action against Odisha's governor's son for allegedly assaulting a staffer at Raj Bhavan.

Patra stressed, “We are not going to provide issue-based support. We will serve as a strong opposition and won't compromise.” The BJD reiterated its demand for special status for Odisha, a promise previously included in the BJP’s 2014 manifesto but never realized.
