The Democratic Party announced a transparent and orderly process for nominating a new presidential candidate for the November elections, said National Committee chair Jaime Harrison following President Joe Biden's decision to end his re-election campaign.

On Sunday, Biden, 81, revealed he would withdraw from the 2024 presidential race and endorsed Kamala Harris, who has Indian and African heritage, as the party's new nominee.

The Democratic National Committee convention, scheduled to start in Chicago on August 19, will see nearly 4,000 delegates gather to elect their candidate. Though Biden's endorsement eases Harris' path to nomination, it depends on delegate support.

Former President Bill Clinton and former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton endorsed Harris, while ex-President Barack Obama and former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi stopped short. DNC chair Harrison assured a fair and transparent nomination process aimed at defeating Donald Trump in November.

Harrison emphasized the Democrats' unity and commitment to core values like lowering costs, restoring freedom, and protecting rights. He praised Biden's legacy and pledged to honor it with a commitment to electing a Democratic president this November.
