Delhi Finance Minister Atishi on Tuesday criticized the BJP-led Centre for failing to allocate any part of the Rs 2.32 lakh crore in taxes paid by Delhi in the Union Budget presented by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman.
Speaking at a press conference, Atishi said that despite a demand for budgetary allocation for the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD), the national capital received nothing from the Centre.
'Delhi is the growth engine of the country, paying over Rs 2 lakh crore in income tax and Rs 25,000 crore in central GST. Despite paying Rs 2.32 lakh crore, the city received no central tax share or MCD allocation,' she stated.
Atishi challenged the BJP to prove any contribution made for Delhi in the last 11 budgets presented by its government. She accused the BJP of neglecting Delhi in the Union Budget, asserting it was crafted to protect the party's interests rather than the welfare of the country.
