During the ongoing Monsoon Session in Parliament on Wednesday, Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi met Union Minister of Road Transport and Highways, Nitin Gadkari, to address the worsening state of National Highway 37 in Assam. Gogoi took to social media platform X to express his concerns, highlighting that the tender process for the Jorhat to Jhanji stretch has been initiated and cancelled three times, raising doubts about the success of the current attempt.

In his July 24 letter, Gogoi emphasized that NH 37 serves as a lifeline for Assam's residents, yet its deteriorating condition causes significant inconvenience. He attributed the extensive wear and tear to increased traffic from commercial activities, tourism, and regular transportation. Despite raising this issue in previous letters and during the 17th Lok Sabha session under 'Matter Under Rule 377,' no tangible improvements have been made.

The letter outlined specific sections of NH 37 requiring urgent attention. Gogoi pointed to defective construction leading to repeated repairs, visible cracks, and uneven surfaces on the Nagaon to Jakhalabandha section. He noted similar issues in the Numaligarh to Jorhat stretch and the incomplete segment from Jorhat to Jhanji onward to Dibrugarh, which has resulted in fatal accidents. Despite Prime Minister Narendra Modi's recent visit to Teok, where the poor road conditions were evident, there has been no progress. Gogoi urged the construction of concrete roads to withstand Assam's heavy rainfall and requested immediate intervention for the repair and completion of the highway for public safety.
