The All India Mahila Congress announced on Thursday the launch of a nationwide movement starting July 29 to demand the political and economic empowerment of women and their right to social justice and security.
Addressing a press conference at the AICC headquarters, the Congress women's wing chief, Alka Lamba, stated that the movement would commence from Jantar Mantar in Delhi and extend to every state capital, major city, and district until the demands of half the country's population were addressed.
The Mahila Congress is set to initiate the nationwide movement from Jantar Mantar on Monday. Lamba outlined three primary demands: the immediate implementation of the Women's Reservation Act, ensuring OBC women's participation; economic empowerment measures such as Rs 8,500 monthly payouts to poor women; and enhanced social justice and security in light of increasing crimes against women. She cited distressing incidents of crimes against women, including cases in Madhya Pradesh and Maharashtra, as examples of the urgent need for action.
