Democratic presidential candidate Kamala Harris is outperforming President Joe Biden in key battleground states, narrowing the gap with Donald Trump, according to an Emerson College/The Hill poll released on Thursday.

The poll shows former President Trump leading in crucial states such as Arizona, Georgia, Michigan, and Pennsylvania, with Harris closely trailing.

In Wisconsin, Harris and Trump are tied at 47%. Harris has surpassed Biden's performance in previous Emerson polls conducted earlier this month in all five states surveyed. Following Biden's decision to exit the race and endorse Harris, the latest Emerson poll conducted from July 22-23 reveals a competitive landscape with a credibility interval of plus or minus 3.4% for each state.

Additionally, a nationwide poll by the New York Times/Siena College released on Thursday shows Harris performing better than Biden against Trump, with Trump leading Harris by two percentage points. The Reuters/Ipsos national poll, however, gives Harris a slight edge over Trump.

While such national surveys indicate the level of support for candidates, the decisive battleground remains a few competitive states that ultimately determine the outcome in the U.S. Electoral College.
