Goa Chief Minister Dr. Pramod Sawant has lauded the Centre's Agnipath scheme, calling it a significant step forward for the Indian armed forces and advantageous for the nation's youth.
The Agnipath scheme, introduced in 2022, aims for the short-term induction of personnel into the Army, Navy, and Air Force, thereby reducing the age profile of these services. It recruits Agniveers aged 17-and-a-half to 21 years for four-year terms, with retention of 25% for an additional 15 years.
On his X handle, Dr. Sawant remarked, ''The Agnipath scheme is a progressive move for our armed forces and will foster dedicated and motivated youth for the bright future of Bharat.'' Prime Minister Narendra Modi, addressing the nation on Kargil Vijay Diwas, highlighted that the scheme is a necessary reform for maintaining a young armed forces profile and dismissed allegations about it being a ploy to cut pension costs.
