On Monday, members of the Samajwadi Party (SP) staged a walkout from the Uttar Pradesh Assembly, protesting over the issue of erratic power supply in the state.

The protest was triggered during zero-hour when SP members, including R K Verma, raised an adjournment notice seeking a two-hour discussion on the issue.

Energy Minister A K Sharma responded by mentioning the suspension of an official in Ballia following a complaint. However, Leader of Opposition Mata Prasad Pandey criticized Sharma's response as unsatisfactory, particularly objecting to the minister's reference to the official.

Despite Speaker Satish Mahana's request for calm, SP members demanded an apology from Sharma and eventually walked out when their demand for a discussion was unmet.

In his defense, Sharma highlighted Uttar Pradesh's record-high electricity production of 30,618 MW, claiming it was a substantial improvement over the previous SP government's performance.
