Rajya Sabha Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar, while responding to a query during the Union Budget debate, asserted his pride in being a Jat. He clarified that the Jat community is listed under the Other Backward Classes (OBC) in both Rajasthan and the central government’s records.
Dhankhar's declaration came during a speech by BJP member Ghanshyam Tiwari. Congress member Rajani Ashokrao Patil subsequently questioned the OBC status of Jats in Rajasthan. Dhankhar elaborated on his involvement with the Jat Aarakshan Samiti and how their demand for reservation was met during former Prime Minister A B Vajpayee's tenure.
