Raghav Chadha, Rajya Sabha MP, has made a strong appeal to lower the minimum age for contesting elections in India from 25 years to 21 years. This call to action was made during the Zero Hour in the Upper House.

Chadha pointed out that India, with an average age of 29 years, is one of the youngest countries globally. He noted that 65% of the population is under 35, and more than 50% is under 25 years.

Highlighting the disparity, he stated 29% of the first Lok Sabha MPs were younger than 40, while only 12% of the current MPs are. Chadha urged that more incentives are needed for youth to enter politics, aiming to transform the image of politics as a viable career.
