Omar Abdullah Criticizes Government for Financial Mismanagement in J&K
National Conference vice-president Omar Abdullah criticized the government for severe financial mismanagement in Jammu and Kashmir, accusing them of leaving a legacy of substantial debt. He highlighted the tripling of the Union Territory's total liabilities to Rs 1.12 lakh crore over a decade.
National Conference vice-president Omar Abdullah on Friday accused the government of severe financial mismanagement in Jammu and Kashmir, claiming it is leaving behind a legacy of extensive debt for any future elected government.
Abdullah, who served as the chief minister of the erstwhile state, voiced his concerns about reports indicating that the Union Territory is under increasing financial strain with its total liabilities skyrocketing to Rs 1.12 lakh crore in the 2022-23 fiscal year.
He criticized the current administration, stating that during the ten years of BJP/NDA rule, Jammu and Kashmir have been saddled with crippling debt instead of promised progress. Abdullah stressed that while there is much talk about a 'naya Jammu and Kashmir,' the reality left behind is a burden of immense interest payments and a looming financial crisis.
According to recent budget figures, Jammu and Kashmir's financial liabilities have more than tripled from Rs 29,972 crore in the 2010-11 fiscal year to the current staggering amount.
