Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Saturday staged a protest outside the LG Secretariat Office, demanding the resignation of LG Vinai Kumar Saxena. This follows the recent deaths of a woman and her son, who drowned in an open drain in East Delhi after heavy rains in the national capital on August 1.
The incident sparked a feud between AAP and the LG over the drain's jurisdiction. While AAP claims it is managed by the Delhi Development Authority (DDA) under the LG, the LG's office asserts it falls under the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD), overseen by AAP. During the protest, AAP spokesperson Reena Gupta said, "A mother and her child died after falling into a DDA drain. DDA is completely under the LG. The LG and DDA are responsible for their deaths."
AAP MLA Kuldeep Kumar stated that the negligence of DDA led to the tragic deaths and called for LG and responsible officers' resignation. In response, the LG Secretariat claimed the drain was under MCD, criticizing AAP for not maintaining it. Delhi Environment Minister and AAP leader Gopal Rai also condemned the BJP for not taking responsibility.
