Former West Bengal Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee passed away at age 80 at his Kolkata home due to old age-related ailments. He is survived by his wife Mira and daughter Suchetana, who underwent gender change surgery. His body will be kept at a mortuary and later taken to the CPI(M) state headquarters for public homage before being donated for medical research.

Former West Bengal Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee died on Thursday at his Kolkata home following old age-related ailments, CPI(M) state secretary Md Salim confirmed.
The 80-year-old Bhattacharjee is survived by his wife Mira and daughter Suchetana, who underwent gender change surgery. Bhattacharjee's body will be kept at a mortuary before being transferred to the CPI(M) state headquarters on Friday for public homage, Salim announced.
West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee offered her condolences and assured full respect and ceremonial honors during Bhattacharjee's last journey. Leaders from various political parties, including Leader of the Opposition Suvendu Adhikari, also expressed their grief at the veteran leader's passing. Bhattacharjee's body will be donated for medical research as per his wishes.
