The Rajya Sabha witnessed high drama on Friday as Opposition leaders staged a walkout following a heated exchange with Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar over comments made by BJP MP Ghanshyam Tiwari against Leader of the Opposition Mallikarjun Kharge. Congress MPs demanded an apology from Tiwari for his remarks on August 1; however, Chairman Dhankhar maintained that the issue had been resolved privately.

The confrontation escalated when Opposition MPs demanded that Tiwari's comments be expunged from the records. Samajwadi Party MP Jaya Bachchan criticized the Chairman's tone, to which Dhankhar retorted that he did not require 'schooling.' This disagreement prompted the complete walkout by Opposition members.

In the aftermath, Chairman Dhankhar referenced the anniversary of the Quit India movement, remarking that the Opposition was 'quitting parliament, their duty.' BJP President JP Nadda condemned the Opposition's conduct, and Union Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan demanded an apology, calling their actions an insult to democratic values.
