China's Strategic Alliance with Bangladesh: A New Chapter Under Muhammad Yunus
China congratulated Bangladesh on the formation of its interim government led by Nobel laureate Muhammad Yunus. Beijing expressed readiness to strengthen its comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership with Bangladesh, amidst the backdrop of political turmoil following Sheikh Hasina's resignation. The elevation of bilateral ties emphasizes China's strategic interests in the region.
In a significant diplomatic gesture, China on Friday hailed the establishment of an interim government in Bangladesh, now led by Nobel laureate Muhammad Yunus. Beijing reiterated its commitment to deepening its comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership with Dhaka.
The Chinese Foreign Ministry stated, “The friendship between China and Bangladesh runs long and deep. China values its relations with Bangladesh, and stands ready to work with Bangladesh to promote bilateral exchanges and cooperation in various areas and further advance our comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership.”
The transition of power comes after former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina resigned abruptly following deadly protests over a controversial quota system in jobs. Despite the political upheaval, China remains optimistic about restoring social stability in Bangladesh, where it has over USD 25 billion in investments.
The rapid political shift occurred shortly after Hasina's high-profile trip to Beijing, highlighting the strategic importance of Bangladesh in China's regional policy aimed at balancing India's influence.
