Union Minister for Communications Jyotiraditya Scindia on Sunday demanded that the Opposition apologize to Rajya Sabha Chairman and Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar, after a spat between the chair and Samajwadi Party MP Jaya Bachchan.
On Friday, Dhankhar and Jaya Bachchan clashed after the actor-politician accused him of speaking to her in an unacceptable tone, prompting an angry retort that he couldn't be schooled. The vice president also remarked that even celebrities must adhere to House decorum.
The Opposition walked out in protest, calling it “disrespect to democracy and Constitution.” Responding to questions, Scindia lamented the treatment of the Rajya Sabha chairman, stating, “This is not just an insult to the Speaker of the House and Vice President but also to the Constitution and our tricolour.” He implied that the public has repeatedly rebuked such actions in elections and would do so again. He also praised the 'Har Ghar Tiranga Abhiyan' ahead of Independence Day, noting its widespread implementation.
