Thirteen Indian Fishermen Repatriated from Sri Lanka
Thirteen Indian fishermen arrested by the Sri Lanka Navy for allegedly fishing in their waters have been repatriated to India. This repatriation follows the return of 17 fishermen earlier this week. Thirteen Indian fishermen who had been arrested by the Sri Lanka Navy for allegedly fishing in Sri Lankan waters were repatriated to their homes on Friday, according to the Indian mission in Sri Lanka.
This comes on the heels of another group of 17 fishermen who were also sent back to India earlier this week.
The dynamic and often tense interactions over fishing rights in the Palk Strait, a rich fishing ground separating Tamil Nadu from Sri Lanka, continue to strain bilateral relations, with incidents of arrests and territorial water violations being frequently reported.
