The Nishad Party, an ally of the BJP-led NDA, announced on Friday that it would field its own candidates in the upcoming by-elections for the Majhawan and Katehari Assembly seats in Uttar Pradesh.
The announcement was made during the Nishad Party's ninth Foundation Day celebrations in Lucknow. Uttar Pradesh Fisheries Minister Sanjay Nishad, who is also the party president, stated that the party had previously contested the 2022 Assembly elections on its symbol in these constituencies and will continue to do so in the upcoming by-elections.
Nishad called on party workers to campaign in support of the NDA in the forthcoming elections. However, BJP's state spokesperson, Harish Chandra Srivastava, clarified that the NDA leadership has yet to make an official decision regarding candidates for the by-elections. The Election Commission is expected to announce the dates soon, as parties begin their preparations.
