Uttarakhand Assembly Monsoon Session Honors Late Legislators

The Uttarakhand Assembly's three-day monsoon session commenced with tributes to late members Kailash Chandra Gahtori and Shaila Rani Rawat. Three key ordinances were tabled, including measures for recovering damages during civil unrest. Chief Minister Dhami paid heartfelt tribute, remined personal ties with the deceased, promising continued commitment to their constituencies.

A three-day monsoon session of the Uttarakhand Assembly commenced on Wednesday, marked by solemn tributes to former member Kailash Chandra Gahtori and Kedarnath MLA Shaila Rani Rawat.

The house saw the tabling of three ordinances, including a significant measure focused on the recovery of damages to public and private property during strikes, riots, and protests from those responsible.

Additional ordinances amending the Uttarakhand (Uttar Pradesh Municipality Act, 1916) and the Uttarakhand (Uttar Pradesh Municipal Corporation Act, 1959) were also tabled on the opening day.

Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami paid homage to Rawat, acknowledging her unwavering dedication to public service and the irreplaceable void her demise has left. Rawat’s passing came early last month, shortly before Gahtori's death in May this year.

Dhami also reminisced about his personal connection with Gahtori, highlighting the significant gesture of vacating the Champawat seat for him in 2022, enabling Dhami to contest following his own electoral defeat in Khatima.

''His memories will stay with me forever,'' Dhami shared, reaffirming his commitment to the Champawat constituency.
