Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar on Wednesday issued an official apology for the collapse of a Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj statue, as public outrage surged. Pawar pledged to hold all responsible parties accountable while political tensions escalated ahead of the upcoming assembly polls.
Clashes broke out between Shiv Sena (UBT) supporters and BJP MP Narayan Rane's followers at Rajkot Fort in Sindhudurg district after the statue collapsed on August 26. Deputy CM Devendra Fadnavis condemned the incident, terming it tragic and urging for non-political discourse.
A First Information Report (FIR) has been filed against the contractor for substandard construction. Meanwhile, the situation has drawn widespread political criticism and demands for an impartial investigation, highlighting the intense scrutiny and political stakes surrounding the issue.
