RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav's demand for a nationwide caste census and a 65 percent quota increase in Bihar's Ninth Schedule has sparked significant political debate. Chief Minister Nitish Kumar was praised for his affirmative actions on the caste census in Bihar by Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Kumar Jha, who criticized the Opposition for their past inaction on panchayat reservations.
Tejashwi Yadav participated in a state-wide one-day sit-in protest alongside fellow RJD members, calling for the inclusion of broader reservations for OBCs, SCs, and STs under the Ninth Schedule of the Constitution. Protests were held across various districts, with large gatherings observed in Patna.
Yadav challenged the JD(U) to clarify their stance on the increased reservation. He accused the BJP of perpetuating socioeconomic discrimination, emphasizing the need for a caste census to address inequalities. The RJD leader reiterated that historical leaders have always advocated for the rights of marginalized communities and criticized societal discrimination.
