Assam Cabinet Rolls Out Rs 1 Crore Insurance Policy for Government Employees

Assam's Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sharma has unveiled a groundbreaking insurance policy offering up to Rs 1 crore in coverage for state government employees. The policy covers life, accidental death, total, and partial disabilities. Other key announcements include bonuses for Assam Tea Corporation workers and power subsidies for weaker consumers.

In a significant move, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sharma announced a new insurance policy on Wednesday, providing state government employees with coverage up to Rs 1 crore. According to the Chief Minister's Office, the comprehensive policy includes Rs 10 lakh for life insurance, Rs 1 crore for personal accidental death, Rs 1 crore for total disability, and Rs 80 lakh for partial disability.

The Assam Cabinet, in a historic meeting, resolved to implement these sweeping changes aimed at offering robust financial security to state employees and their families. The policy will cover accidental death with Rs 1 crore, permanent disability also with Rs 1 crore, partial disability with Rs 80 lakh, and death due to illness with Rs 10 lakh. The coverage is in addition to existing benefits.

Further, a 20% bonus for Assam Tea Corporation Ltd workers, Rs 200 crore subsidy to APDCL, and plans for a third Taj Hotel in Jagiroad were approved. Amendments to the State's Startup and Industrial Policy were also discussed. Additionally, CM Sharma highlighted that the Cabinet has adopted 57 out of 67 recommendations from the Justice (retd) Biplab Sarma Commission to uphold Clause 6 of the Assam Accord, marking a historic step for the state.
