Gopaldas Agrawal, a prominent leader of the Maharashtra BJP and former MLA, announced his resignation from the party in a press conference on Sunday. Agrawal, who represented Gondiya, stated he plans to rejoin the Congress on September 13.
Addressing the media, Agrawal expressed his discontent with the BJP's policies and cited a lack of commitment from party workers as reasons for his departure. He has formally submitted his resignation to the party's national president JP Nadda. Agrawal had joined the BJP in 2019 but faced electoral defeat then, which he attributed to insufficient support from party members.
Agrawal revealed that he has communicated his decision to key BJP leaders, including Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and state president Chandrashekhar Bawankule. He will be welcomed back into the Congress by Ramesh Chennithala, Maharashtra Congress in-charge. Despite his past victories with Congress, Agrawal emphasized that his return is not motivated by electoral aspirations.
