The Congress has appointed Subhankar Sarkar as the new president of its West Bengal unit, replacing Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury. This decision was announced on Saturday by party president Mallikarjun Kharge.
Sarkar has been relieved from his current role as All India Congress Committee (AICC) Secretary to take on the new responsibility. The party expressed its appreciation for the contributions of the outgoing PCC president, Chowdhury, in a statement.
Formerly overseeing the states of Arunachal Pradesh, Meghalaya, and Mizoram as AICC Secretary, Sarkar steps into his new role following Chowdhury's resignation after the Lok Sabha polls. The Congress leadership consulted state leaders to maintain balance in ties with the Trinamool Congress while selecting the new chief for the state unit.
