The U.S. is increasing its military presence in the Middle East as tensions escalate between Israel and Hezbollah forces in Lebanon, the Pentagon announced on Monday. According to Pentagon press secretary Maj. Gen. Pat Ryder, no details were provided on the number of additional forces or their specific missions. Currently, around 40,000 U.S. troops are stationed in the region.
This decision comes after substantial Israeli strikes on Lebanese targets, resulting in hundreds of casualties. Israel is gearing up for further operations, heightening concerns of a broader regional conflict. In light of this, the State Department has advised Americans to exit Lebanon at the earliest opportunity.
“Due to the unpredictable nature of ongoing conflicts between Hezbollah and Israel and recent explosions throughout Lebanon, including Beirut, the U.S. Embassy urges U.S. citizens to depart Lebanon while commercial options still remain available,” the State Department reiterated on Saturday.
