Union Minister G Kishan Reddy, BJP's election in-charge for Jammu and Kashmir, announced on Thursday that the region has seen its most peaceful elections since Independence. He commended the increased voter turnout during the first and second phases as a significant achievement for the BJP-led government and the Election Commission. The final phase of voting will occur on October 1, and vote counting is scheduled for October 8.
Reddy expressed confidence that the BJP would gain a majority in the first and second phases, held on September 18 and September 25, respectively. He extended his gratitude to the Government of India and the Election Commission for their roles in ensuring peaceful elections. Reddy emphasized that the increased voter participation is a testament to their efforts.
Highlighting the BJP's development initiatives and efforts to restore peace in Jammu and Kashmir, Reddy pointed to a surge in tourism as evidence of progress. He noted that the region had welcomed 2.11 crore tourists in the past year, reflecting improved security and stability.
Reddy firmly stated his belief that the people of Jammu and Kashmir would support Prime Minister Narendra Modi's leadership, predicting a full majority for the BJP in the final results. He reiterated that both phases had already indicated BJP's majority win.
The Election Commission of India reported a 57.03 percent voter turnout in the second phase of the J&K assembly polls by 11:45 pm on Wednesday. These elections are the first in the Union Territory since the abrogation of Article 370, occurring nearly a decade after the last assembly elections.
