The ruling Sikkim Krantikari Morcha (SKM) has officially nominated Aditya Golay and Satish Chandra Rai as candidates for the imminent by-elections in Soreng-Chakung and Namchi-Singhithang. Golay, Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang's son, previously won the Soreng-Chakung seat, while Rai serves as SKM's vice president.
The candidates were selected post-approval from SKM's parliamentary board, as stated in the party's announcement. Chief Minister Tamang used social media to endorse the candidates, expressing confidence in their commitment to represent Sikkim's populace effectively.
The by-election arises because CM Tamang vacated the Soreng-Chakung seat in favor of retaining Rhenock, while his wife, Krishna Kumari Rai, resigned from the Namchi-Singhithang constituency shortly after her election. Polls are slated for November 13, with vote counting set for November 23.
