Tensions Rise as Trump Bypasses Kyiv in Russia-Ukraine Peace Talks

On Thursday, Ukraine and its European allies vocalized their demand to be included in upcoming peace negotiations after President Donald Trump bypassed them in a conversation with Russia’s Vladimir Putin. Trump suggested that Ukraine might not regain all its lost territories or achieve NATO membership.

This move by the Trump administration has led to a surge in Russia's financial markets and an increase in Ukrainian debt's price, signaling positive expectations for peace talks. However, concerns rose among Kyiv and European NATO members about potential U.S. concessions without their involvement.

EU foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas emphasized the necessity of including Europe and Ukraine in any agreements, warning against one-sided deals. Meanwhile, Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov praised Trump’s efforts, contrasting them with the previous U.S. administration's approach of sustaining the conflict.
