YSR Congress Party officials TJR Sudhakar Babu and Kasu Mahesh Reddy have vigorously denounced the Telugu Desam Party's alleged antidemocratic actions during ongoing municipal by-polls, accusing them of employing intimidation and violence. Speaking at separate media events, they claimed that the TDP is eroding democratic values through violent and coercive strategies, along with false legal cases, particularly targeting the municipal elections.
TJR Sudhakar Babu specifically accused the TDP of using unlawful force and intimidation to manipulate the elections, such as securing vice-chairperson positions despite lacking a majority. He condemned TDP leaders for allegedly resorting to violence against YSRCP councillors, through tactics including kidnappings and threats, in a bid to maintain power. He also highlighted the apparent inaction of local police to address these illegal activities, decrying the disregard of constitutional principles, and warning that the citizens of Andhra Pradesh would deliver a just response to these actions.
Echoing these views, Kasu Mahesh Reddy criticized TDP for its descent into what he termed 'regressive' political maneuvers, citing YSRCP's 100 percent victory in previous municipal elections as a benchmark for democratic practices. He pointed to specific incidents in Pedakurapadu, where TDP allegedly orchestrated violence and intimidation against YSRCP councillors, including kidnappings and property damage. He commended Ward Councillor Munira and her family for their resilience in facing these harrowing challenges and remaining loyal to YSRCP.
Mahesh Reddy further outlined alleged threats posed by the TDP, accusing them of intimidating the Municipal Chairman in Pedakurapadu and threatening punitive actions against his business unless demands were met. Expressing grave concerns over what he described as increasing anarchy and the proliferation of false cases by TDP, he urged collective vigilance to safeguard democracy. Both leaders called on citizens to stand united against what they view as TDP's undemocratic conduct, particularly in light of the municipal by-elections, to ensure the preservation of democratic integrity in Andhra Pradesh.
