The Biju Janata Dal (BJD) has allied with the opposition to demand an urgent discussion on duplicate voter ID numbers within the Rajya Sabha. Party leader Sasmit Patra has filed a notice under Rule 267 to suspend regular procedures for this critical matter.

Expressing concerns over substantial discrepancies in votes cast during the 2024 Odisha parliamentary and assembly elections, BJD emphasized the need for immediate action. The party plans to submit a memorandum to the Election Commission detailing these irregularities, which include significant differences found between forms filled by election officials.

During previous elections, variations in votes across 21 Lok Sabha seats ranged dramatically, indicating possible discrepancies. Although the BJD is not part of the INDIA bloc, it stands with multiple opposition MPs pushing for a comprehensive discussion on this electoral issue.
