The gold smuggling incident involving actress Ranya Rao has prompted Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah to order an immediate investigation into alleged protocol violations at Bengaluru International Airport. At the center of the controversy is senior IPS officer Ramachandra Rao, suspected of playing a role in the smuggling activities.
Ranya Rao allegedly exploited her status and courtesy services at the airport to evade inspections while smuggling gold from Dubai, leading to her arrest. In response, the government has tasked Additional Chief Secretary Gaurav Gupta with probing the circumstances surrounding the misuse of airport protocols and the potential involvement of IPS officer Ramachandra Rao.
Investigations are underway, spearheaded by Gupta, who is expected to submit a comprehensive report within a week. The case has drawn significant attention, given Ranya's familial ties to IPS Rao and the substantial quantity of gold involved. The court has allowed limited access to legal counsel during her custody, emphasizing humane treatment throughout the investigation.
