The International Criminal Court has officially confirmed the issuance of an arrest warrant for former Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte. The charges relate to crimes against humanity during his administration's aggressive anti-drug campaign.
Duterte served as the nation's leader from 2016 to 2022 and has faced widespread criticism for the war on drugs that reportedly led to numerous extrajudicial killings. His arrest occurred at Manila's airport following his return from Hong Kong.
Later in the day, Duterte was taken on a jet to The Hague, where the ICC is headquartered, to answer the allegations against him.
