The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) conducted searches on Wednesday at the residences of former Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel in connection with an investigation into the Mahadev betting application. Sources report that the raids preceded Baghel's scheduled travel to Delhi for a significant All India Congress Committee (AICC) meeting.
Reacting to the developments, Baghel's office posted on social media, highlighting his ongoing travel plans for the Drafting Committee meeting in Ahmedabad. He alleged that the CBI's actions were politically motivated, occurring just as he was set to leave for the AICC gathering.
Amid the controversy over enforcement actions, Baghel refuted claims that his son received a summons in a separate liquor scam probe. He attributes these raids to a political conspiracy by the Bharatiya Janata Party, arguing that central agencies are being politically wielded. Congress leaders have criticized BJP for targeting opposition figures through such investigations. Meanwhile, the ED asserts a scheme operated by government officials and businessmen illicitly profited from state liquor sales.
