Vice Admiral Sanjay Vatsayan, an accomplished gunnery and missile systems specialist, has taken over as the 47th Vice Chief of the Naval Staff, effective August 1, 2025.
With a celebrated career spanning decades, Vice Admiral Vatsayan has fulfilled various pivotal operational, staff, and training roles within the Indian Navy, including significant positions at the Headquarters Integrated Defence Staff and Naval Headquarters in New Delhi.
This appointment follows Vice Admiral Krishna Swaminathan's new role as the Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief of the Western Naval Command, as announced in a ceremonial parade at INS Shikra.
