BJP MLA Ketki Singh from the Bansdih Assembly constituency has urged both the central and state governments to consider renaming Ghazipur to honor Maharishi Gautam, the father of Maharishi Parashuram.
Saying she has written to Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, Singh argued for changing names that recall periods of disgrace, which were created to celebrate invaders, suggesting these should be replaced by names acknowledging significant historical figures.
Singh emphasized that altering Ghazipur's name can boost the spirit of future generations. She also questioned the popular historical narrative that glorifies Akbar, suggesting that history should reflect true legacies.
