Controversy Over Electoral Roll Revision Sparks Political Tensions in Punjab

Amrinder Singh Raja Warring, president of the Punjab Congress, has sounded alarm over the forthcoming Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the state's electoral rolls. He claims this initiative by the Election Commission intentionally manipulates voter information to favour the BJP.

The Election Commission has announced phase two of the SIR, set to occur between November and February across 12 states and Union territories. Warring contends this is a strategic move to disenfranchise communities that might not support the BJP, including Dalits, backward classes, and minorities. He fears similar tactics will be employed in Punjab, ahead of its elections in 2027.

Warring assured that the Congress will mobilize workers to safeguard against any potential fraudulent voting practices through the misuse of SIR. The Congress aims to prevent the perceived political manipulation in Punjab, maintaining the integrity of the state's election process.
