Arvind Kejriwal, the former chief minister, called on the central government to revoke the 18% GST on air and water purifiers as Delhi-NCR's air quality worsens. He highlighted the essential nature of clean air and water, labeling the tax as unjust during a public health crisis.
In a Hindi post on social media platform X, Kejriwal criticized government actions, noting that instead of supplying solutions to combat pollution, the administration chooses to impose hefty taxes on protective measures like air purifiers.
The appeal coincides with health experts warning of a 'very poor' air quality forecast, stressing the importance of diagnostic screenings for pollution-related health issues, particularly affecting vulnerable groups such as smokers, young children, and those with pre-existing conditions.
