Nepal's Prime Minister, Sushila Karki, stressed the importance of the army's role in facilitating the parliamentary elections set for March 5. Her remarks came after President Ramchandra Paudel approved the Cabinet's decision to deploy the army for the elections.
During an inspection at the Army Headquarters, Karki emphasized the importance of a free, fair, and secure electoral process, highlighting the army's past success in similar roles. She urged the force to develop a clear action plan to ensure public safety and aid police operations.
Karki called for close coordination with the Nepal Police and Armed Police Force, considering past electoral experiences and current sensitivities. The Prime Minister also instructed on recovering weapons and arresting escaped prisoners, while being briefed on security challenges and plans.
